makings of the nursery PART 2

as I did in part 1 of the nursery series, i will give you an update on where we stand with respect to these 6 areas:
  1. Walls
  2. Furniture
  3. Bedding/Textiles
  4. Decor
  5. Functional Items (changing pads, organizers, nightlights, etc)
  6. Closet Organization
We haven't made MAJOR changes since the last post, but we have made progress in a few areas, so I want to keep everyone up to date.  eventually i will use a real camera (instead of my phone) and take good pictures of the whole room, but that will probably be when it is DONE. so here is the update..

Walls: this was complete in the first series.  we labored over our wainscoting, paint, and crown molding and I LOVE IT! I'm so glad we got motivated to do that before our basement project started, because it never would have happened otherwise.  you've seen the pictures, but you see the paint colors in the new pictures below

Furniture: We purchased furniture on Labor day...we weren't planning on it, but they had a sell and we were motivated shoppers.  I love the furniture we bought, I was looking at the exact stuff online but wasn't willing to wait for the 12 week delivery.  Children's Fair in Chattanooga had all three pieces in stock..YAY! we are still planning on squeezing in a glider somewhere in the room also.

dresser/changer...there is also a chest but obviously it didn't make the picture cut.  stay tuned

Bedding/Textiles: The bedding is supposed to be finished in early October, but as you may have read, I have taken on some of the bedding projects myself.  To date, the only thing I have completed is a blanket/comforter for the crib but I still have GRAND plans of pillows.  See my blanket in the picture below...I can't explain how proud of myself that I am...who knew I could sew??? this picture also gives a few more sneaks at the fabrics for the nursery...although there is still more that I have yet to reveal!

my precious!!
Decor: After a shopping trip that included homegoods and ikea all in one weekend, I ended up with several decor items.  i bought a bunch of frames for a a gallery wall project as well as a mirror to hang on the wall.  which leads me to a question...how in the heck do i paint a glossy (plastic? not real sure about that) mirror frame without using spray paint, since that is likely unhealthy for the little bean inside of me.  leave comments if you have input...i need help.

Functional Items: the light fixture is hung! (and amazing, i might add),  i bought her a nightlight at the recommendation of tiffany and joy, and i bought some hanging bucket organizers thingys for above the changing table...most of this has not been taken out of their boxes yet, but check out my light...

Closet Organization: i bought a set of mesh drawers at ikea, and then proceeded to stack a bunch of stuff on top of other stuff in the closet just so I could squeeze it in amongst the mess...and that was it.  I haven't put anything in it and have no idea what i may put in it...but i have it! clearly there is still a ways to go in closet organization...

30 in 30 update

I wanted to show an update for my 30 in 30 list now that we are more than halfway through that time frame.  There is only about 13 weeks (give or take a few left) until D-day (also known as Christmas for all of you who have different priorities than me this year); so it is time for a reality check.  If you don't recall this list, or you haven't read this blog before; this was a list of 30 things I wanted to accomplish in the 30 weeks before baby arrived.  They range from home projects to food goals and everywhere in between.  So here is the list...with some commentary on a few items

1. decorate the nursery (this one is in the works)
2. buy office furniture and finish the office
3. unpack/furnish the bonus room / "in law" suite (we now have furniture in this room and we moved the couch out, but it is just thrown in there with no mattress or bedding...we are working on it)
4. improve my "green thumb" (we have successfully maintained an herb garden for most of the summer, and now i have kept mums alive for over a week...which is a record) and lay a border around our flowerbed
5. travel - antigua, san diego, and destin (planning for October)
6. eat at Pasta Italia...again (this one isn't going to happen...pasta italia closed...and i am sad!)
7. start the basement remodel
8. keep up with my pregnancy journal
9. host a holiday for the WHOLE family (this will most likely be Thanksgiving)
10. go to a braves game
11. visit Huntsville, at least 3 2  1 times
12. sell the lake house
13. buy new master bedroom bedding
14. enlarge/frame at least one wedding picture
15. paint master bathroom
16. fondue at home
17. eat at foodworks
18. cut the dead tree beside our driveway
19. read a book about baby routines/schedules (i started happiest baby on the block..not really about schedules, but it does give insight to routines.  i may read another if i feel good about it)
20. recycle the stack of boxes in our garage
21. go to the driving range
22. watch a UAH softball fall game
23. extend our driveway
24. host a party for friends
25. learn to brew beer (this will be chuck's)
26. watch a movie at the theater and get popcorn
27. teach Rigsby to "meerkat"
28. buy window treatments and blinds
29. organize digital pictures and computer files
30. cook a meal that takes all day

this week

apparently I am just not going to get around to doing a 25 week post.  I almost feel like I am cheating if I do one now since I am closer to 26 than 25...but in true "catch up" fashion, I'll let you in on WHY i have been such a slacker!  With the dawn of football season and the never-ending basement project, it has been more and more difficult to get my husband (AKA photographer) out of the basement and off of the couch to actually take my picture, you see where I'm going with this....it is all HIS fault! Thursday-Monday, everyday is dedicated at least partially to football and Saturday is sun up to sun down football...
here is Rigsby in his Saturday best...supporting the bulldogs!

this weekend was also out for me, Tiffany and Joy came to visit and we headed out early Saturday morning for a FULL day of shopping and baseball in Atlanta.  (seriously, if you ever want to go to IKEA, go with these 2, they are pros!)  we had lots of fun and I won the award for spending the most money! check out my loot.

lots of nursery storage, picture frames, and some other goodies!
this trip got me motivated to get back into nursery mode.  i promised myself i would be done with the nursery by 32 weeks, which is 6 weeks away.  the bedding/furniture should be wrapped up by 30 weeks.  what is left is wall decor, closet organization, and functional items (changing station, lamp, etc).  i promise I'll update here when i feel like there has been a worthy change, but so far I haven't done ANYTHING since I last showed pictures.  part of my motivation included me doing some sewing projects...yes, you read that right ME + SEWING! mom sent down 2 (yes, 2) sewing machines for me to cut my teeth on and Sunday I sat down with the machine, the instructions, a spool of thread, and the cheapest fabric i could find to practice with.  and the result:

crappy iphone quality picture...BUT, check out those corners!
I'm not one to brag, but hell Martha White (or whoever it was that sewed that flag) ain't got nuthin' on me!!! I knocked out perfect mitred corners without even touching a seam ripper! my plan for these new found skills is to sew a blanket to match the bedding (mostly for decoration, i know I'm not supposed to cover my child with a blanket while she sleeps...save the lectures) and some throw pillows for the crib and glider.  i have really good intentions of starting the real projects this week before I forget what I did on the practice round.  I will definitely update on these projects just so i can brag some more keep you in the loop!

a look ahead, more to do lists..

If you don't like lists...you should probably skip this post.  I got to thinking about how FAST this whole thing is flying by and of course my head naturally starting making a to do list...this is just how I work.  Chuck said yesterday, "i feel like everytime you open your mouth it starts with, 'we need to...'".  And he is right, we have lots to do, and for my sanity, here are just a few that relate to this sweet pea growing inside of me (I'll spare you the lengthy list that has nothing to do with the pregnancy)

  • day care, we need to find out that doesn't have a waiting list where i can leave a child and feel comfortable
  • showers, there is 2 in the making
  • nursery
  • books, i am determined to read at least one method of parenting...although it is unlikely that I will follow anything in the book
  • hospital registraion, classes, insurance (i lumped all the medical stuff together, b/c I don't know enough about any one of them to talk about it...but i'm sure there is stuff i need to figure out)
  • vacation...i really want to go to florida alone without a kid one more time, but that time is getting away from me.
  • photography, either for maternity pictures, newborn pictures, or both (i need to find someone here)

there is a just a sampling, I'm sure there is more.  As a reminder, it is Monday (for all those that work, I'm sure you were well reminded).  I started my Monday like this:

I never drink REAL coffee anymore, but this morning there was no way around it.  I was wishing it was a chai latte or a pumpkin spice latte, but really it was just plain ol disappointing office coffee.  But it got me through the morning, and I have been bouncing off the walls ever since.
